Soft washing vs. pressure washing: which does your home need?

Same goal, opposite methods

Pressure washing uses high water pressure — thousands of PSI — to physically blast grime off hard surfaces. It's the right tool for concrete, stone, pavers and brick: materials that can take the force.

Soft washing flips the equation: low pressure (roughly a strong garden hose) paired with biodegradable cleaning solutions that dissolve grime and kill biological growth at the root. The chemistry does the work instead of the force.

Which surfaces get which

Pressure washing: driveways, sidewalks, patios, pool decks, stone, pavers, brick. On these we use rotary surface cleaners rather than a bare wand — even coverage, no zebra striping.

Soft washing: stucco, all painted or stained wood, vinyl and composite siding, roofs of every kind, window screens, fences, and composite dock decking. High pressure on any of these strips paint, gouges wood, cracks tiles and voids roof warranties.

Why it matters more on the coast

Coastal grime is disproportionately biological — algae, mildew and lichen fed by marine-layer moisture. Blasting growth with pressure removes what you can see and leaves the roots, so it returns in weeks. Soft washing kills the organism; surfaces stay clean several times longer.
